Take a look at this week’s list of Top 40 singles and albums and you may wonder if you are really in 2007.
Out of the Top 10 albums, only four are what you would call ‘new’ artists. And only one – The Trick To Life by the Hoosiers – is a debut album.
The rest of the list looks like a CD collection from the 1980s and 1990s. The Eagles, Boyz II Men, Whitney Houston and Westlife, all figure.
A veteran from the 1960s, Robert Plant, is even at number five, helped no doubt by the publicity of his band Led Zeppelin reforming.
Then there is the singles chart. It features Take That, The Spice Girls, Phil Collins and Celine Dion.
It’s like the “Noughties” never happened.
